Hectic preparations have been going on in the holy city on the banks of the Ganga for the past several weeks to honour its VIP visitor. This is expected to be discussed during the coming visit. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe shake hands during a meeting in Paris. Mr Abe will hold the annual summit with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, that will focus on forging greater synergy between two major Asian economies, with the two PMs expected to review the implementation of decisions taken over the past year to enhance the economic relationship, specially in trade and investment, and to boost strategic ties.

At their last summit meeting in Tokyo last year, the two PMs had agreed to elevate the relationship to a “special strategic and global partnership”. The exclusive Banarasi products include intricate brocade, Gulabi Meenakari (pink-enamelled items), wood carving and soft stone craft undercut work.The formal summit will be held Saturday, December 12, and later that day Mr Modi will escort his Japanese guest to Varanasi, his parliamentary constituency, where a grand welcome awaits the two PMs. The two PMs had signed an agreement to develop Varanasi as a “smart city” when Mr Modi visited Japan in August last year, when Mr Abe had accompanied the Indian PM on his tour of the ancient city of Kyoto.The two PMs are due to watch the “Ganga aarti” from a floating stage specially erected by Army personnel for this occasion.India is all set to welcome Japanese PM Shinzo Abe, who will begin a three-day visit to the country Friday. Mr Abe, during this visit to India, is also likely to go to major Buddhist sites like Sarnath. Mr Modi had visited Japan from August 30 to September 3 last year, during which visit Japan announced the doubling of its private and public investment in India to around $34 billion over a period of five years.
